I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and hold a PhD in General Psychology and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling, both from Walden University. While attending Walden University, I focused on social change in community mental health, motivated to assist children and adolescents who felt alone in exploring their emotions and thoughts. My Bachelor in Psychology is from Ashford University. It was there that my interest in Psychodynamic Therapy was sparked. Based on my education and professional experience noted below, I am also recognized in Washington State as a Child Mental Health Specialist.
I gained extensive experience working in the Child and Family division of a community mental health center. The various ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds was an invaluable tapestry that has become a large piece of who I am as a Psychotherapist. Working with the community broadens and deepens the empathy and respect for the individual sitting across from me. My experience, both professional and personal, covers a wide range of interpersonal challenges as well as challenges often faced in various stages of an individual, family, or couples’ stage of development. I am trained in and approach each individual from a Psychodynamic perspective and utilize selected interventions based on Cognitive Behavioral, Solutions-Focused, and Emotions-Focused therapies to best suit each unique client. Psychoeducation is used throughout therapy to inform and empower the people I see. In addition, I have been trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and work with adolescents and adults who have experienced significant trauma in their lives. I also assist adolescents and adults who find themselves faced with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, parenting issues, or just find themselves looking for something more in their life. For me, therapy is about developing a specific relationship in a safe, neutral and non-judgmental atmosphere. Sometimes we just want someone who will listen. I work from the perspective that each of us are motivated and shaped by our relationships, from our earliest relationships, our most current relationships, all the way to the relationships which we desire to have in the future. Our very personalities, our likes and dislikes, and our views are shaped by the dynamic interplay of conscious and unconscious factors and those in turn shape our behavior and attitudes. I believe that people seek therapy when they would like to see something change in their life, they desire healthier and improved relationships with themselves or others, or perhaps they are struggling with something that interferes with the quality of their life or their family's life. That is really the reason why I chose to be a therapist - because I enjoy helping individuals experience richer and more fulfilling lives and relationships. |
